Gazprom has since 2005 been a general sponsor of SKA Ice Hockey Club which ranks among the four oldest Russian ice hockey teams. The SKA players combine a commitment to the traditional team spirit-based Soviet hockey and cooperative game-playing which involves the most up-to-date playing techniques. The club is ready to search for and find innovative solutions, such as choosing the Gazprom Arena football stadium as a venue to host the 2018 and 2019 matches that brought together more than 60,000 spectators and thus boast to be among the twenty most visited games in the entire history of the world's hockey.

SKA was among the participants of the first-ever USSR Championship in 1946 and then twice became a bronze medalist of the Soviet Championships in 1971 and 1987, but the golden era in the Club's history began soon after the start of its cooperation with Gazprom. In 2015, the SKA players for the first time ever became the holders of the Gagarin Cup; two years later they repeated their success by winning the Russian championship and also won the Continental Cup three times (in 2013, 2018 and 2023).

Today, SKA is the top team of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and one of Europe's strongest teams which had in its ranks world-famous hockey players, Olympic and world champions.
