In 1995, Gazprom became the first oil and gas company in Russia to adopt an Environmental Policy.

Environmental impacts
Gazprom operates both in densely-populated Russian regions and in pristine areas across Eastern Siberia, the Far East, the Extreme North, and the Arctic shelf. No matter the region, the Company seeks to minimize its environmental impacts.
Hydrogen energy
The development of hydrogen energy in Russia is essential both for the decarbonization of the domestic industry and for exports to the global hydrogen market. This line of activity is also becoming increasingly relevant in the context of the climate agenda in the global economy and energy sector.
Energy efficiency management system
Improvement of energy efficiency is included in Gazprom's strategic goals and serves to boost the competitiveness of the Gazprom Group both in Russia and in the global energy market, as well as to mitigate environmental impacts and increase the cost-effectiveness of the production operations.

Vernadsky Foundation
In 1995, Gazprom established the Vernadsky Nongovernmental Ecological Foundation. The Foundation is actively advancing environmental projects, supporting organizations that deal with environmental problems, promoting the legacy of Vladimir Vernadsky, and improving environmental culture in Russia.
Over the years of its operation, the Foundation has managed to earn credibility not only within Russia’s environmental community but also in the international arena.
