Gazprom’s Spartakiada Games with record number of subsidiaries’ teams open in Yekaterinburg

The opening ceremony for Gazprom's Spartakiada Games was held today on the site in front of the Social Center of Ural Federal University in Yekaterinburg.

The teams of the Gazprom Group companies will compete in five sports: futsal, basketball, table tennis, bullseye shooting, and skiing. The student teams from the Company's partner universities are also taking part in the Spartakiada Games. They will participate in a variety of competitions, namely radio direction finding, skittles, as well as a multi-stage relay race and intellectual games.

These events will take place at three sports facilities across Yekaterinburg, culminating on March 19.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, sent his opening address to the participants and organizers of the Spartakiada Games. His message reads:

“It is one of the brightest and most anticipated events for our large team, a major corporate sports event. The Spartakiada Games make it possible for all participants to show their best qualities: goal orientation, spiritual fortitude, teamwork skills, and the will to win. Such events bring Gazprom's large family closer together and help the Company achieve planned targets in all areas of activities.

Our Spartakiada Games take place in Yekaterinburg for the fifth time. This year is marked by a new all-time record in terms of the number of subsidiaries participating in the Spartakiada Games, which are as many as 32. It means that more and more Gazprom employees choose a sporty lifestyle. Keep it up!

I wish the participants of the Spartakiada Games to aim for victory and the spectators to get unforgettable impressions!”

Apart from that, on occasion of the elections of the President of the Russian Federation in the period from March 15 to 17, a polling station is set up on the premises of the student campus of Ural Federal University for all participants and guests of the Spartakiada Games.

Background

Gazprom has been holding the Spartakiada Games since 1996. Among the key objectives of the Games are promoting a healthy lifestyle, exchanging work experience related to physical culture and mass sports, and preserving sports traditions.

The Games take place in regions where Gazprom's subsidiaries are present.
