Contracts signed for transmission of Russian gas across Kazakhstan

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Sanzhar Zharkeshov, Chairman of the Management Board of NC QazaqGaz, today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 signed long-term contracts for the transmission of Russian gas across the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic. The contracts will be effective in the period from 2025 through 2040.
To ensure gas transit, it is planned, inter alia, to expand the dedicated route that uses the Central Asia – Center gas trunkline system, as well as to implement other projects for developing gas transmission capacities in Kazakhstan.
Alexey Miller and Roman Sklyar, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, signed an Action plan for preparing the Central Asia – Center IV gas trunkline facilities for the increased transmission volumes of Russian gas to be delivered to Uzbekistan.
Background
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 is being held at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 5 to 8. The main theme of this year's Forum is “The Formation of New Areas of Growth as the Cornerstone of a Multipolar World.”
In October 2023, the ceremony was held to mark the start of Russian natural gas supplies to the consumers of the Republic of Uzbekistan across the Republic of Kazakhstan. The gas supplies are arranged in reverse flow via a dedicated route that uses the Central Asia – Center gas trunkline system.
In November 2023, Gazprom and the Government of Kazakhstan signed the Agreement of Strategic Cooperation for expanding the cooperation in natural gas supplies, transmission and processing, as well as natural gas exploration and production.
