Background

In October 2023, Russian natural gas supplies were launched to the consumers of the Republic of Uzbekistan across the Republic of Kazakhstan. The gas supplies are arranged in reverse flow via a dedicated route that uses the Central Asia – Center gas trunkline system.

In November 2023, Gazprom and the Government of Kazakhstan signed the Agreement of Strategic Cooperation for expanding the cooperation in natural gas supplies, transmission and processing, as well as natural gas exploration and production.

In June 2024, Gazprom and NC QazaqGaz signed contracts for the transmission of Russian gas across the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic in the period from 2025 through 2040. Gazprom and the Government of Kazakhstan signed the Action plan for preparing the Central Asia – Center IV gas trunkline facilities for the increased transmission volumes of Russian gas to be delivered to Uzbekistan.
