In 2023–2024 autumn/winter period, Gazprom delivers record-high amount of gas to Russian consumers
RELEASE
Release
The Gazprom Management Committee reviewed the operating results of the Gazprom Group entities and organizations for the 2023–2024 autumn/winter period and the measures to be taken for ensuring uninterrupted gas supplies to consumers in the 2024–2025 autumn/winter period.
It was noted that the production complex of Gazprom provides consumers with reliable gas supplies in the required amounts, including during peak demand. This was once again demonstrated in the past autumn/winter period.
According to preliminary data, the total volume of domestic gas supplies delivered via Gazprom's gas transmission system in the period from October through March reached a historical high and was about 5 per cent above the corresponding supplies of the 2022–2023 heating season.
Especially chilly periods were observed in December 2023 and January 2024, with the ambient air temperature in the area covered by the Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS) dropping below the climate normal in these months. The peak of the extreme cold snaps was observed in the first half of January: the average temperature fell to minus 14.3 degrees Celsius on January 12 and minus 19.8 degrees Celsius on January 13. Supplies via Gazprom's gas transmission system were performed on a steady basis. All-time daily records for gas supplies were set twice: 1,788.3 million cubic meters on January 12 and 1,814.7 million cubic meters on January 13. The previous daily record for gas supplies had remained unbroken for almost ten years (1,786.8 million cubic meters of gas delivered on January 30, 2014).
An increased demand for Russian gas in the autumn/winter period was also observed from foreign consumers, such as China and Uzbekistan. For instance, in the period from November through February, Gazprom eleven times set all-time highs for its daily exports of gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline.
Underground gas storage (UGS) facilities of Gazprom made a major contribution to the Company's confident performance in the autumn/winter period. Gazprom consistently expands its UGS capacities. By the beginning of the 2023–2024 withdrawal period, the Company brought the working gas inventories in Russia's UGS facilities to an all-time maximum level of 72.842 billion cubic meters. The potential maximum daily deliverability of the underground storages was also brought to a new all-time high of 858.8 million cubic meters.
In order to ensure a reliable operation of the UGSS in the 2024–2025 autumn/winter period, the Management Committee tasked the relevant structural units and subsidiaries to:
– by the new withdrawal season, stockpile 73.034 billion cubic meters of working gas inventories in UGS facilities in Russia, therefore reaching a new record-high. The potential maximum daily deliverability of the UGS facilities will be kept at last year's level of 858.8 million cubic meters. The working gas inventories will amount to 1.14 billion cubic meters in the Republic of Belarus (a new maximum for said country) and 0.107 billion cubic meters in the Republic of Armenia;
– develop the Basic Guidelines on preparing the facilities of Gazprom's entities and organizations for the 2024–2025 autumn/winter period;
– in line with the developed schedule, perform scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs at gas production, transmission, underground storage and processing facilities, provide for the implementation of the planned investment projects, and prepare transport and specialized equipment for future operation in the winter season.
