Gazprom and Mongolian Government discuss progress of design & survey works for Soyuz Vostok project

The Joint Working Group of the Government of Mongolia and Gazprom on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding regarding the project for pipeline gas supplies from Russia to China across Mongolia met in Ulan-Bator, Mongolia. The meeting was moderated by Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Sainbuyan Amarsaikhan, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia.

The meeting participants discussed the progress of the design and survey works for the Soyuz Vostok gas trunkline construction project. It was noted that the works are proceeding in strict compliance with the approved schedules and are currently at their final stage.

Background

In 2019, Gazprom and the Government of Mongolia signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

In 2020, Gazprom started to assess the possibility of supplying gas to China across Mongolia in the amount of up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

In January 2022, Gazprom and the Government of Mongolia signed a statement on the results of the consideration of the feasibility study for the Soyuz Vostok gas trunkline construction project. The study was prepared by the Gazoprovod Soyuz Vostok special-purpose vehicle.

February 2022 marked the signing of the contract for design and survey works as part of the project, as well the Action Plan of the Joint Working Group between the Government of Mongolia and Gazprom for 2022–2024.
