Second edition of contemporary art fair 1703 opens in St. Petersburg

The opening ceremony for the second edition of St. Petersburg Art Fair 1703 took place today in the Manege Central Exhibition Hall at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2023. The project was initiated by Gazprom and is being implemented with the support from the St. Petersburg Government.

Taking part in the opening ceremony were Boris Piotrovsky, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, Vadim Navoyenko, Director General of the Gazprom Fund for Supporting Cultural Initiatives, and Alisa Presnetsova, Managing Director of St. Petersburg Art Fair 1703.

As the first edition of the fair attracted strong public interest, the second season of the project became even more extensive. In 2023, it includes 35 galleries from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and Kaluga, which is 1.5 times more than in 2022. The works of both famous and beginning authors presented at the fair include items of paintings and sculpture, graphics, photographs, installations and artworks created with the use of digital technologies.

On display for the visitors of the 1703 fair are also the special exhibition project titled “City” from the corporate collection of Gazprombank and the exhibition titled “Leningrad School of Landscape Painting” from the collection of St. Petersburg's KGallery.

The fair program contains an eventful cultural and educational agenda, including lectures and roundtables. Leading Russian experts will tell about the gallery business, education in the creative industry and new technologies in the spheres of art, collectible design and photography.

The fair will be open through June 18.

Gazprom is holding St. Petersburg Art Fair 1703 with the support from the St. Petersburg Government.

The fair was conceived as a new yearly cultural event to support the work of Russian artists and art galleries. The project was launched in 2022. The first edition of St. Petersburg Art Fair 1703 was highly appreciated by professionals and became a success among the guests and residents of St. Petersburg, attracting over 10,000 visitors during the four days of the event.
