Gazprom’s Spartakiada Games in St. Petersburg become one of biggest and most spectacular events in decades of this corporate sports movement

Closing ceremony for Gazprom’s Spartakiada Games. Victory in corporate team standings among subsidiaries of Gazprom went to Gazprom Transgaz Yugorsk. Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk and Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta took second and third place, respectively

The closing ceremony for Gazprom's Spartakiada Games was held today at the Yubileyny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg.

The event was attended by Sergey Khomyakov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, Sergey Gustov, Director General of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz, Anton Shantyr, Head of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of St. Petersburg, and Tamara Moskvina, Honored Figure Skating Coach of the USSR and Russia and Ambassador of Gazprom's Spartakiada Games.

Victory in the corporate team standings among the subsidiaries of Gazprom went to Gazprom Transgaz Yugorsk. Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk and Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta took the second and third place, respectively.

Employer-sponsored students of Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk won the competition among the teams of partner universities. Gazprom Transgaz Surgut was the runner-up in this category, followed by Gazprom Transgaz Samara.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, sent his congratulations to the competition's winners and participants:

The Games proved yet again that the employees of Gazprom and the students of our partner universities are always goal-oriented, extremely competitive, and successful in overcoming any and all barriers and challenges.

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the winners and all participants. May you always set ambitious goals for yourselves and believe in your ability to meet them, scaling new heights.”

Background

The 2022 Spartakiada Games brought together 31 adult teams representing subsidiaries of Gazprom from Russia and Belarus, as well as 14 student teams from the Company's partner universities. Employees of Gazprom demonstrated their prowess in track-and-field athletics, swimming, football, kettlebell lifting, volleyball, and chess. Students competed in bodybuilding, track-and-field race, and darts. A total of 109 medals were awarded.

Gazprom has been holding Spartakiada Games since 1996. Among the key objectives of the Games are promoting a healthy lifestyle, exchanging work experience related to physical culture and mass sports, and preserving sports traditions.

The Games take place in regions where Gazprom's subsidiaries are present. Participation is prohibited for members of Russian national teams and those taking part in zonal competitions, official national, European and global championships and tournaments, and the Olympic Games.
