Igor Safonov appointed Director General of Gazprom UGS

Igor Safonov has been elected Director General of Gazprom UGS.

He was born in 1973 in Batumi. He graduated from Bauman Moscow State Technical University, majoring in Turbine Construction. In addition, he completed a professional retraining course for underground gas storage (UGS) specialists at the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.

Igor Safonov has been employed with Gazprom for 20 years.

Between 1998 and 2009, he rose through the ranks from Engineer to Deputy Head of the Gas Compressor Service, Head of Compressor Shops at the Kasimovskoye UGS Directorate of Gazprom UGS.

2009–2015: Chief Engineer of the Kaluzhskoye UGS Directorate at Gazprom UGS.

2015–2018: Head of the Moskovskoye UGS Directorate at Gazprom UGS.

Sergey Shilov, the former head of Gazprom UGS, was relieved of his post due to retirement this April.

Background

Gazprom UGS operates 22 UGS facilities of Gazprom in the Russian Federation. The company encompasses 25 branches: 19 UGS directorates, four emergency response & recovery and well workover directorates, an Engineering Center, and a Procurement Directorate.
