Gazprom resuming gas deliveries to Azerbaijan

RELEASE

Gazprom Export and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) reached an agreement to resume natural gas supplies to Azerbaijan. A contract to that effect was signed in Moscow on November 21, 2017. Gas supplies are to start on November 22, 2017. It is planned to deliver a total of 1.6 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to Azerbaijan under the contract.

“We have a long history of partnership with Azerbaijan in the field of natural gas trading. It is encouraging to see this relationship flourish and move to the next level,” said Elena Burmistrova, Director General of Gazprom Export.

SOCAR is Azerbaijan's largest state-owned petroleum company engaged in oil, natural gas and gas condensate exploration, production, processing, transportation and sales.

In October 2009, Gazprom Export and SOCAR signed a medium-term contract for natural gas deliveries from Azerbaijan in 2010–2015 via the Shirvanovka custody transfer point on the border of Russia and Azerbaijan. The overall amount of gas purchased from Azerbaijan in 2010–2015 was 5.4 billion cubic meters.

In 2015, Gazprom Schweiz, a subsidiary of Gazprom Export, supplied gas to Azerbaijan Methanol Company (AzMeCo). A total of 107.4 million cubic meters of gas was delivered under the contract.
