On working meeting between Alexey Miller and Maria van der Hoeven

The Gazprom Headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee and Maria van der Hoeven, Economic Affairs Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The meeting discussed the possible development of the bilateral relations in the energy sector.

The parties stressed the particular significance attached to the cooperation between Gazprom and the state-run company N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie, including within the Nord Stream project implementation. Additionally, a positive evaluation was given to the sci-tech cooperation between Gazprom and its Dutch partners.

Based on the meeting results the parties confirmed their interest in strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership.

Background

The aggregate natural gas reserves of the Netherlands are estimated at approximately 1.8 tcm. Natural gas, oil and coal share in the country’s energy balance stands for 48, 44 and 8 per cent respectively. The domestic production accounts for some 76 bcm, import – some 9 bcm. The total gas consumption makes up circa 35 bcm. The length of the gas transportation networks totals 11 thousand km.

In 2007 Gazprom supplied 5.5 bcm of gas to the Netherlands.

N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie is a state-run gas infrastructure and transmission company based in the Netherlands. The company owns one of the largest gas distribution networks in Europe with a total length exceeding 12,000 km. The network annually supplies some 100 bcm of gas constituting a significant part of the total European gas consumption.
