The karate fighters from the Shotokan Transgaz Stavropol sports club demonstrated a strong performance at the Russian National Competitions (held among children and youth 12–20 years old) and the All-Russian Tournament (held among children 10–11 years old) in the Shotokan eastern martial arts, which concluded on May 6 in the town of Vidnoye, Moscow Region.
A total of 1,800 athletes from 38 Russian regions, including 32 representatives of Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol's sports club, competed on tatami mats.
At the Russian National Competitions, the Gazprom karate fighters won one gold and four bronze medals in individual fight events, and one silver and four bronze medals in team kumite events. At the All-Russian Tournament, the athletes of the club got two more gold medals and one silver medal in individual fight events and three gold medals in team events.
“I would like to highlight that our debutants who have won awards and prizes in these prestigious competitions are very well-trained,” commented Viktor Mashchenko, Director of the Shotokan Transgaz Stavropol sports club, on the performance of the karate fighters. “Thanks to the support from the company, the fighters are now at a level of sportsmanship that makes it possible for them to make themselves known by impressive victories in different types of eastern martial arts.”
The Gazprom athletes took home to the Stavropol Territory a total of 16 sports medals. Due to their success, the region's team became one of the leaders in the overall standings of the competitions.
