The local habitat conditions of muksun are the most favorable among all rivers of the Yamal Peninsula due to the presence of deep lakes in the upper reaches of the river and its vast delta.

“As part of cooperation with Gazprom Dobycha Nadym, our institute has elaborated the environmental protection provisions that form part of the Bovanenkovskoye field development project,” said Professor Vladimir Bogdanov, Scientific Director of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Branch of the RAS, Corresponding Member of the RAS. “The adopted measures facilitated the growth of fish population, and, so far, this is the only example in Russia when a species is recovered in a natural way.”
