Gazprom Transgaz Saratov assisted the Adaptive Sports Club in purchasing bicycles for the training sessions. Since 2019, the club, which is located in Saratov, has been promoting different kinds of sport for children with disabilities in the city. Training sessions, equipment and apparel for the participants are provided free of charge.
At present, eight children aged 15 to 17 years practice para-cycling at the club. Three of them have already achieved sports results at the national championship in June this year.
“In two months, the national youth competitions in para-cycling will take place in Saratov. Judging by the results achieved at the national championship, we expect a successful performance of our students. The equipment received with support from Gazprom Transgaz Saratov has come very handy: we are actively training our athletes,” said Igor Shirokikh, coach of the team.
“Speed, thrill and a sense of freedom – that is what our children feel during the training activities. In the course of the training sessions, you exercise both the body and the brain, since you have to watch the road and change the gears. When our children smile, we are also happy,” said the parents.
It should be noted that in the winter of last year the representatives of Gazprom Transgaz Saratov presented the Adaptive Sports Club with sleds for sledge hockey, which is the Paralympic version of ice hockey for people with musculoskeletal disorders.
