Stavropol karate fighters emerge triumphant in All-Russian Karate Cup

The town of Vidnoye, Moscow Region, hosted the All-Russian Championship and the Russian Cup in the Shotokan eastern martial arts from October 28 to 30. The competitions were marked by a strong performance of the athletes from the Shotokan Transgaz Stavropol sports club.

The tournaments held under the auspices of the Eastern Martial Arts Federation of Russia brought together karate fighters from 46 regions across the country. The Stavropol Territory was represented by 42 athletes of the Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol sports club, who got 21 medals in the Moscow Region during the tournaments.

The tournaments’ program consisted of two Shotokan categories: kata (formal exercises) and kumite (sparring). Winners were determined among girls and boys in different age categories. Shotokan Transgaz Stavropol took home a total of 7 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze medals.

The podium places in the Moscow Region were taken by Ekaterina Degtyareva, Alexander Bocharov, Vladislav Tokarev, Alina Anashkina, Danila Mashchenko, and Maria Merlin. Another winning place, contested among the club’s female athletes, was awarded to a team of girls aged 16 to 17.

18-year-old Danila Mashchenko made an especially strong showing at the All-Russian Cup. He has not lost a single tournament for two years in a row, which once again earned him the title of all-round champion in Vidnoye. Besides, Vladislav Tokarev made a glorious debut at the tournament by showing the best results in his age category at his first competitions of such level.

“The excellent results of our athletes at the All-Russian Cup have once again confirmed their national leadership in this sport, which proves that they can rightfully represent the national team at various international events,” said Alexey Zavgorodnev, Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol.

There are repeat world, European and Russian champions among the members of the Shotokan Transgaz Stavropol sports club. The club is led by Viktor Mashchenko, Head Coach of the Russian national Shotokan Karate-do team, Honored Shotokan Karate-do Coach of Russia.
