This year, the Youth Games, which were arranged by the Russian Union of Martial Arts, included competitions in 22 sports accredited by Russia's Sports Ministry. More than 1,000 athletes from nearly every Russian region gathered in the Krasnodar Territory for this major tournament. The Stavropol Territory was represented by the gas transmission company-sponsored sports club, whose pupils fought in two types of oriental martial arts: Shotokan Karate-do and Shito-ryu.

The karate fighters – boys and girls aged from 12 to 17 years – fought for the victory in individual and team events. Fighters who participated in the Shito-ryu tournament were divided into several weight classes.

Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol's athletes brought home eight gold, three silver and four bronze medals from Anapa. The young Sergey Kanygin won as many as four awards, including three golds, becoming the undisputed champion of the competition. The karate fighter took the lead in individual Shotokan kumite for 12-year-olds, team fights in Shotokan Karate-do and Shito-ryu for 12-13-year-olds, and individual Shito-ryu for 12-year-olds weighing up to 44 kilograms. The podium places in the Anapa games were also taken by Anatoly Anashkin, Tamirlan Makiev, Savely Gordeev, Mikhail Paramonov, Mikhail Gordienko, Alina Popova and Nika Prusova. In individual Shotokan kumite for 16-17-year-olds, Shotokan Transgaz Stavropol almost swept the podium: Vladislav Chernov seized the gold in the final battle, while Danil Mashchenko and Artem Legotin won bronze medals.
