On May 8, the Fakel-Gazprom table tennis club from Orenburg lifted the trophy of the European Champions League for a fifth time.
Two Russian clubs – Fakel-Gazprom from Orenburg and UMMC from Yekaterinburg – vied for the main prize this year.
The winner of the prestigious tournament is decided based on the results of two final matches. The first final was held on May 4 in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk Region, where the Orenburg team pulled off a character win by scoring 3–2.
The return match, which took place on May 8 in Orenburg, was no less strenuous. Vladimir Samsonov, An Yan, and Dmitry Ovcharov scored winning points for Fakel-Gazprom. Just like the preceding match, the return final concluded with a 3–2 score in favor of the Orenburg club.

After the award ceremony, Denis Pasler, Acting Governor of the Orenburg Region, congratulated all local residents on this landmark sports achievement. “Our team has delivered a tour de force,” he said, offering special gratitude to Gazprom for the comprehensive promotion of table tennis.
Fakel-Gazprom is now one of the three teams with the most victories in the European Champions League.
Only three European teams – Belgium’s Charleroi, Germany’s Borussia Dusseldorf, and now Russia’s Fakel-Gazprom – have five trophies of European Champions League
