New cableways constructed by Gazprom within the preparations for the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in 2014 opened for the visitors of the Mountain Tourist Center in Krasnaya Polyana. Up to now, the two out of three new cableways have been used only by the guests and participants of the Olympics, and one more has been commissioned just recently.

Alpika Service resort cableway

The first stage of the Alpika Service resort cableway started its operation. It takes tourists to the height of 780 meters above the sea level to the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track on the Aibga Ridge. The cableway capacity is 3,000 people per hour; cable cars for eight people and chairs for six people are used.

In addition, the 3S aerial cableway takes tourists up the Psekhako Ridge to the Biathlon and Ski Complex located at the height of 1,600 meters. This is one of the world’s longest cableways of a kind – its length exceeds 5,300 meters, its capacity is 3,000 people per hour, the cable car can carry up to 30 people at a time.

Cableway after ascending Psekhako Ridge

After ascending the Psekhako Ridge, the resort visitors can take one more new cableway which commands a view on the main sports venues constructed by Gazprom for the Olympics: biathlon tracks, the biathlon stadium, the start and finish zone, spectator stands and the shooting range. The cableway capacity is 2,000 people per hour.

Biathlon and Ski Complex

Background

Gazprom Sotsinvest is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. The company carried out the construction of Olympic infrastructure facilities in Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi, namely, the Integrated Biathlon and Ski Complex, the Mountain Olympic Village, the second stage of Gazprom’s Mountain Tourist Center and others. The company’s main business is serving as a customer of Gazprom’s major investment and construction projects.
