The Morki urban settlement of the Mari El Republic hosted a festive opening of the Olymp health and fitness center on October 17, 2012. Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod built the center as part of the Gazprom for Children program.
The opening ceremony was attended by Vyacheslav Yugai, Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir Chumakov, Minister of Physical Training, Sports and Tourism of the Mari El Republic and Roman Bersenev, Chief Federal Inspector of the Mari El Republic.
“Olymp is the sixth sports facility built by Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod in the Mari El Republic over the last five years. According to Vyacheslav Yugai, developing the mass sports in regions is a priority of the company’s social policy. Our main objective is to ensure reliable gas transmission, but we also encourage training of future Olympic champions within our sports centers.”
“Gazprom assisted in creating new sports facilities here in Morki as well as in Kuzhener and Kozmodemyansk and I hope they will appear in other cities and towns of the Republic. Gazprom is the company that helps our region establish an up-to-date sports base and we, on our part, promise to provide a good coaching pool for dealing with children,” noted Vladimir Chumakov.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom, Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod conveys natural gas to Central Russia.
The Gazprom for Children program is the largest social project of Gazprom. 714 sports facilities have been already constructed and retrofitted in 72 regions as part of this program. These include recreation centers, stadiums, football fields, swimming pools, playgrounds and children’s recreation camps.
The Olymp sports center covering a total area of over four thousand square meters has cutting-edge equipment and includes a gym with stands for playing types of sports, a weight room, a wrestling room, a table tennis rooms and a doctor’s office. The sports center accommodates a ski base, office and supporting spaces and rest rooms. The center’s daily throughput is some 500 visitors.
The Mari El Republic has five operating versatile sports grounds built by gasmen. In 2011 the Mari El Government received the beneficial aid in the amount of RUB 100 million for building a sports center in the Privolzhsky urban settlement of the Volga District, Mari El Republic.
