As part of comprehensive initial testing activities, the Adler thermal power plant started supplying heat to the Olympic venues situated in the Imereti Lowland.
The heat from the Adler TPP is required for staging of the ISU Figure Skating Final that will be held at the Figure Skating and Short Track Ice Palace in Sochi on October 6–7, 2012.
The Adler TPP is included into the Program for Construction of Olympic Venues and Development of Sochi as a Mountain Climate Resort, and it will provide all the Olympic facilities and the city as a whole with reliable uninterruptable power supply.
Background
The Adler TPP consists of two combined cycle power units with the total capacity of 360 MW. The process is based on four gas turbine units (GTU) manufactured by Italian ANSALDO and two steam turbines manufactured by Kaluga Turbine Plant. Upon commissioning, the Adler TPP is projected to serve one third of the load of the Sochi power district, as well as almost 50 per cent of the existing power deficiency.
