Boxing Tournament in tribute to Vladislav Strizhov

The 12th Traditional International Boxing Tournament in tribute to Vladislav Strizhov came to an end in Nadym on November 27. The competition was held under the auspices of the Gazprom for Children program and brought together some 185 sportsmen from Russian regions, CIS and non-CIS countries: Finland, Israel, Kirghizia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania.
According to the tournament results the winners were the team from Nadym. They won 10 golden, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals out of 26 medal sets. The Best Boxer of the Tournament title went to Nadym resident Nikolai Platon.
On the first day of the tournament participants laid flowers at the monuments to Vladislav Strizhov and to Valery Remizov who took over from Strizhov as CEO of the Nadym gas production enterprise being the initiator of the tournament.
Competition guests of honor were Olympic Champion Vyacheslav Yanovsky, eight-times World Champion Orzubek Nazarov, winner of the 1st World Championship Vladislav Zasypko and the most decorated sportsperson in the world of woman’s boxing Natalya Ragozina. They held a meeting with the tournament participants prior the start of the competition.
Gazprom Dobycha Nadym acts as the sponsor of this competition for several years running and the tournament is held within a framework of the Gazprom for Children program for the second year. This provides for enhancement of participants’ geographical representation, improvement of young sportsmen’ dwelling and competition arrangements. As Director General of the enterprise Sergey Menshikov noted gas producers will continue to invest into the region sports development.
Background
Gazprom Dobycha Nadym is Gazprom’s wholly-owned subsidiary focused on gas and gas condensate production and treatment.
The company was set up on December 1, 1971. The first gas production company in the northern region of Western Siberia was designed to develop and operate the Medvezhye oil, gas and condensate field. Nowadays, the company is also developing the Yubileynoye and Yamsoveyskoye fields. It holds the subsurface use licenses for the Kharasaveyskoye gas and condensate field and the Bovanenkovskoye oil, gas and condensate field.
Vladislav Strizhov was the first Director General of the Nadymgazprom Production Association (present Gazprom Dobycha Nadym). The International Youth Boxing Tournament in tribute to his name has taken place in Nadym since 2001.
