Fakel Gazproma table tennis club (Orenburg) has become the champion of Russia for the fifth time.
On April 28 Yekaterinburg hosted the final round of the national championship among men’s table tennis teams. Russia’s top eight clubs of the Premiere League fought for medals.
The Orenburg club took a lead during the eight-month national table tennis “marathon”. Finally, they confirmed their title of Russia’s best table tennis club by winning the 2 points required defeat the Urals Mining & Metallurgical Company team from Verkhnaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk Oblast.
“Our team has passed the most difficult match. The major goal is achieved – we are national champions again. Many thanks to David Gaidt, Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg who supported Gazprom’s club with his colleagues,” said Sergey Ivanov, Director General of Gazprom Dobycha Orenburg, President of the club. “The sportsmen justify the confidence of gasmen. Our club is a multiple winner of the Russian Championship, it holds the ETTU Cup, two most challenging matches against the Urals Mining & Metallurgical Company team are ahead in the final of the European Champions League.”

The Fakel Gazproma table tennis club (Orenburg) was set up on October 20, 2001.
The Fakel Gazproma club is a finalist of the European Champions League 2011, winner of the ETTU Cup 2010, two-times winner of the Russian Cup. The club is comprised of Alexey Smirnov and Fyodor Kuzmin, players of the Russian national team, Masters of Sports of International Class, Dmitry Ovcharov, player of the German national team and Vladimir Samsonov, player of the Belarusian national team, Honored Master of Sports.
