Moscow hosted the Russian National Shotokan Karate-do Games, the Russian Shotokan Karate-do Competition and the Russian Shotokan Karate-do Championship. The teams from 40 Russian regions took part in the sport events which were carried out at the same time. Members of the Stavropol Krai team, the best karate fighters from Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club, participated in the tournaments.
In the Russian National Shotokan Karate-do Games teamed up the participants under 14 years of age, the company’s sportsmen won three medals. Evgeny Molchanov and Dmitry Sysoev took the gold medals in the age groups of 12 and 13 years old, accordingly, Ilya Chiglintsev took the silver medal in the age group of 12 years old.
In the Russian Shotokan Karate-do Competition, Alexander Brykalov won the bronze medal in the age group of 14 years old, Sergey Mashchenko was the winner in the age group of 15 years old, and Kazbek Mutaliev became the runner-up in the age group of 16 to 17 years old. The company’s sportsmen showed outstanding results in the most prestigious category of the Competition – in the age group of 18 to 20 years old – taking three medal places: Islam Nagoev became the winner, Vladislav Ivanov won the silver and Mkhitar Mkhitaryan – the bronze.
For the first time in the history of the Russian Shotokan Karate-do Championship, members of the same team, Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club, occupied the whole winners’ podium. Mkhitar Mkhitaryan, the Championship winner, Islam Nagoev, the silver medalist, Evgeny Chentsov and Ivan Kiryanov, both holding the bronze, didn’t leave other competitors a chance to win. In addition, the company’s karate fighters were the best in the Kumite team competitions. The sportsmen became winners of this nomination, placing the Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol sports club on the top for the 15th time in a row.
Background
Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. The company maintains the line pipes passing through 10 Russian constituents and conveying some 70 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The gas pipelines length exceeds 7,900 kilometers.
Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club was founded in 1998. Viktor Mashchenko, Senior Coach of the Russian national Shotokan karate-do team is a constant leader of the club.
