Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club sportsmen – members of the Russian national team – won seven medals at the European Shotokan Karate-do Championship. The Championship took place between December 7 and December 9 in Belgrade (Serbia).
The competitions held under the auspices of the European Shotokan Karate-do Association were attended by more than 300 representatives from 24 European countries. The tournament was only for the absolute division in three age categories: cadets (16–17 years), juniors (18–20 years) and adults (20 years and older). Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club fighters performed in each category.
The Club's team took one gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Mkhitar Mkhitaryan, who performed in two age categories, received four prizes in the competition at once. He earned the European Champion title among adults, got two silver medals (in the individual junior competition and team competition among adults) and helped the Russians to win the bronze medal in the junior team competition. Besides, Sergey Umrikhin (adults), Vladislav Ivanov (juniors) and Sergey Mashchenko (cadets) took third places in individual fights.
This European Championship was the most successful one in the Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club history.
