Fight for winning title

50 snowmobile racers came from Kirov, Megion, Nadym, Nefteyugansk, Novy Urengoy, Samara, Saint Petersburg, Strezhevoy, Surgut, Tyumen and Yaroslavl to take part in the final tournaments.

Racers faced serious test of courage

Riders from the Fakel sports club (Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy) were among the first to cross the finishing line in the individual and team championships and won medals. Pavel Zakharov and Valery Khomenko became the 2012 Russian Snowcross Champions among the adults and juniors accordingly. Evgeny Sikora took away the bronze among the youths. As for team results, sportsmen from the Fakel sports club were the first among adults and juniors and second – among the youths.

From April 13 to April 15 Nadym will host the rounding up race for the Fakel snowmobile riders – the Urals Federal Okrug Championship.

Background

Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom and operates in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. As a socially responsible company, Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy pays great attention to the sports and physical training.

In 1986 the Fakel snowcross club was established, teaming up the employees from Utility Vehicles Directorate.

Following the finalizing results of the Russian Snowcross Cup that took place during the 2010–2011 snowcross season, the Fakel sports club (Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy) was the 3rd in the team championship. It was the first time when the riders took part in enduro snowcross championship, became members of the national team and participated in the Snowcross World Championship Finland.
