The representatives of Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club won fifteen gold, three silver and five bronze medals during the National Championship and the Cup of Russia for Shotokan Karate-Do in Kazan. Taking part in the contests were over 700 sportsmen from 41 regions of Russia. Summing up the team rating, Gazprom Club became the first among the strongest sports teams once again.
The National Championship for Shotokan Karate-Do embraced sportsmen not older than 17 years old. Dmitry Sysoev, Sergey Mashchenko, Islam Nagoev became champions in their age categories. Evgeny Molchanov won silver, Alexander Murakidi and Dmitry Cherkashin – bronze. Besides, Sergey Mashchenko, Dmitry Cherkashin and Alexander Brykalov became champions in the team contest.
The club’s sportsmen occupied the whole winners podium in the 18 to 20 years old category of the Cup of Russia. Alexey Zaitsev became the champion, Vladislav Ivanov won the silver medal, Mkhitar Mkhitaryan and Islam Nagoev won the third step of the podium (karate supposes two third places). Ivan Kiryanov won silver and Evgeny Chentsov – bronze in the 21 and older category. Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol took all the chances to win in team contests. Zaitsev, Ivanov, Nagoev, Mkhitaryan added gold medals to the team’s bank contesting among the juniors. Among the adult sportsmen (in team contest) the winners were Chentsov, Kiryanov, Umrikhin and Zaitsev (karate allows to participate young sportsmen in the older category contest).
Background
Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. The line pipes maintained by the company run across 10 Russian constituents. The company annually conveys some 70 billion cubic meters of gas. The total length of the gas pipelines exceeds 7,900 kilometers.
Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club was set up in 1998. Viktor Mashchenko, Senior Coach of the Russian national Shotokan Karate-Do team is a constant leader of the club.
