11th Traditional International Boxing Tournament in tribute to Vladislav Strizhov starts in Nadym

The 11th Traditional International Boxing Tournament in tribute to Vladislav Strizhov, the first Director General of Gazprom dobycha Nadym started in Nadym on November 27.
This year the tournament brought together around 170 sportsmen from Russian regions, the CIS and Europe: Finland, Belarus, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. The guests of honor were represented by Vyacheslav Yanovsky and Shamil Sabirov, Olympic Champions; Orzubek Nazarov, seven-times World Champion and Vladimir Zasypko, winner of the 1st World Championship.

On the tournament opening day the participants laid flowers at the monuments to Vladislav Strizhov who gave his name to the ongoing tournament and to Valery Remizov – initiator of the tournament and Vladislav Strizhov’s successor to the post of Director.
Speaking at the festive opening ceremony Sergey Menshikov, Director General of Gazprom dobycha Nadym noted that it would be impossible to tap giant gas fields or build cities in the challenging environment of the Extreme North, if it were not for the moral courage, self-discipline and physical training gained through sports activities in general and through boxing in particular.
The competitions will be finished on December 1 (Thursday) with the awarding ceremony and the closing parade.
Background
Gazprom dobycha Nadym is Gazprom’s wholly-owned subsidiary focused on gas and gas condensate production and treatment. The company was set up on December 1, 1971. The first gas production company in the northern region of Western Siberia was designed to develop and operate the Medvezhye oil, gas and condensate field. Nowadays, Gazprom dobycha Nadym is also developing the Yubileynoye and Yamsoveyskoye fields and holds the subsurface use licenses for the Kharasaveyskoye gas and condensate field and the Bovanenkovskoye oil, gas and condensate field being currently pre-developed.
Vladislav Strizhov was the first Director General of the Nadymgazprom Production Association (present Gazprom dobycha Nadym). The International Youth Boxing Tournament in his tribute has taken place in Nadym since 2001.
