Mini-City opened in downtown Saint Petersburg

A festive opening of an architectural, educational and tourist Mini-City center took place today in the Alexandrovsky Park of Saint Petersburg.
Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee presented the project and delivered the symbolical key of the Mini-City to Valentina Matvienko, Governor of Saint Petersburg.
The Governor noted that it was the second birthday of the City. Saint Petersburg is called the open-air museum and now this name has become reality. Besides, Valentina Matvienko expressed hope that the park of miniatures would be the favorite leisure place of the citizens and would be attractive for tourists.
The architectural, educational and tourist center Mini-City is a charitable project of Gazprom (the project operator is Gazprom transgaz Saint Petersburg).
The Mini-City is a model of the downtown Saint Petersburg (1:33 scale bronze sculptures). The park complex near the Gorkovskaya subway station will enable the citizens and tourists “to visit” the most famous historical ensembles during one visit: the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Palace Square with the Winter Palace, the General Staff Building and the Alexander Column; the Senate Square including the Admiralty, the Senate, the Synod and the St. Isaac Cathedral, the Exchange Market with Rostral Columns, the Kazan Cathedral, the Mikhailovsky Castle and the Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood.
Besides, the park is decorated with the sculpture of the Saint Petersburg’s patron saint, Peter the Apostle and with the Architects composition consisting of 8 figures: Rastrelli, Rossi, Trezzini, Montferrand, Thomas de Thomon, Voronikhin, Zakharov and Bazhenov.
Background
Gazprom transgaz Saint Petersburg is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom in Northwestern Russia. The company is primarily focused on gas transmission.
The author of the Mini-City project is Alexander Taratynov, sculptor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
