Construction of Psekhako-2 cableway in Gazprom’s Mountain Tourist Center close to completion

The experts of Gazprom sotsinvest are close to completion of the Psekhako-2 aerial cableway. So far, the activities are over for 90 per cent – lower and upper terminal stations are constructed, 17 supporting towers are installed, main equipment is being delivered and installed, particularly, cables are being strung for lifting passenger carriages.
The cableway will connect the venues at the bottom of the Psekhako Ridge with the venues located on the upper part of the plateau – at the height between 1,500 and 1,550 meters above the sea level, where the Biathlon and Ski Complex as well as the Mountain Olympic Village for accommodation of athletes participating in ski racing and biathlon competitions are constructed.
“The Psekhako-1 cableway was opened for tourists and guests along with the beginning of commercial use of Gazprom’s Mountain Tourist Center in January 2008. The Psekhako-2 cableway is being constructed according to Article 176 of the Program for Construction of Olympic Venues and Development of Sochi as a Mountain-Climatic Resort”.
The length of new cableway will make up 3,051 meters, the operating velocity – 6 meters per second, the throughput capacity – 2,000 people per hour in each direction.
In this context, Matvey Geller, Head of the External Relations Directorate of Gazprom sotsinvest highlighted, “As part of preparations for the international competitions of year 2014 and in compliance with the Program for Construction of Olympic Venue with a view to extend the capacities of the transport infrastructure of Gazprom’s Mountain Tourist Center, several new cableways will be built, including Psekhako-2, as well as the world’s longest 3S aerial cableway (with 3 cables, the capacity of each gondola is 32 people). The bulk of spectators of ski racing and biathlon competitions are to be delivered to the Psekhako Ridge by the very cableways.”
Background
Gazprom sotsinvest is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. It was set up in July 2005 to act as a customer of large-scale investment projects for civil construction in Russia against the orders of Gazprom. At the moment, Gazprom sotsinvest is implementing the Company’s projects for construction of large facilities in Saint Petersburg, Central and Southern Russia, including the Olympic infrastructure in the Krasnaya Polyana settlement near Sochi: Biathlon and Ski Complex, a Mountain Olympic Village and Phase 2 of Gazprom’s Mountain Tourist Center.
