Being constructed by Gazprom in Sochi, Adler TPP is getting ready for the first train equipment tests. The information was provided by Yury Dolin, First Deputy Director General of Mosenergo Fuel and Energy Company, representative of the contracting company during the visit by mass media representatives to the construction sites of Gazprom-owned Olympic facilities. “By now, the bulk of power generating equipment has been installed at Adler TPP, thus enabling us to carry out pilot operation of the generating capacities this summer,” said Yury Dolin. “Meanwhile, the construction activities are progressing in full compliance with the schedule: the TPP main building is almost ready, underway is the construction of utility rooms, utility networks and other facilities. Completion of the Adler TPP construction is scheduled for late summer of 2012. More than a half of all construction and installation activities have been finished by the moment.”

Adler TPP will provide heat and light to sports facilities located in Imereti lowland as well as population centers of Adler district, Sochi

“The CHPP is included in the Olympic construction and organization program and will provide electricity and heat to the entire Imereti lowland and the main Olympic facilities located in the region. The Adler TPP capacities will also be utilized to provide heat and light to Sochi. The facility is extremely significant and the Government pays special attention to it,” said Alexander Fedorusenko, Deputy Director General of Gazprom investproject.

“It is important that Adler CHPP will be among the most eco-friendly stations as it will be powered by natural gas and apply technologies enabling to comply with international and Russian environmental requirements and even surpass them,” said Yury Dolin.

Background

The TPP will be based on two combined cycle gas turbine units with the total capacity of 360 MW (heat capacity – 227 Gcal/hr). Adler TPP was the first to pass public hearings and receive approvals of the state environmental expertise among the energy facilities being built in Sochi. Adler TPP construction was initiated in September 2009. The project for the TPP construction complies with Article 130 of the Russian Government approved Program for Construction of Olympic Venues and Development of Sochi as a Mountain Climate Resort as well as with Gazprom’s Power Generation Strategy. Gazprom Group’s investments are targeted at upgrading the domestic power industry and assuring energy efficiency and resource saving as the mainstay of the Russian economy.
