The Starinushka children’s folk song group of Gazprom transgaz Stavropol took the third place in the nation-wide folk competition “The Cossack Circle”. The young artists represented the Terskoye Cossack Military Society. They performed on the Kremlin Palace stage in Moscow competing with Russia’s best folk teams from 11 Cossack communities. The competition was arranged by the Russian Presidential Council for Cossack Affairs. The group’s lead vocalists sang an old Zaporozhian Cossack song. Alexander Kapustin is the group’s artistic director and Nikolai Badin is the accompanist.
The Starinushka group was established in September 1995 to study and promote the folk song arts of Southern Russia. The group’s repertoire includes dozens of Cossack and folk songs, Christian songs and religious poems. Since 1999 the group has been among the best children’s folk groups of the Stavropol Krai. Starinushka is a constant participant of national and regional competitions.
