Ivan Kiryanov, a fighter from the Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club, master of sports, world champion among juniors, 2-times European champion, 5-times champion of Russia defeated Daniel Pascal, world champion, 3-times champion of Germany, at the International martial arts match 6th Battle of Champions: Russian Team versus World Team. The match took place on December 2 at the Luzhniki small sport arena in Moscow. Ivan Kiryanov add victory gold to the country's collection, which won in overall team classification by an 11:1 score.

The Battle of Champions embraced the strongest sportsmen from the entire planet. The sportsmen were contesting in following sports: ju-jitsu, savate, sumo, sambo, karate, Pankration, Wushu Sanda, Thai box, kickboxing. As part of the 6th Battle of Champions contests on kyokushin also took place. Aikido and capoeira sportsmen took part in exhibition performance.

Ivan Kiryanov said that he had been a little nervous before the contest. He organized himself and performed well thanks to the audience and Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club delegation support.

Background

Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. The company maintains the line pipes passing through 10 Russian constituents and conveying some 70 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The gas pipelines length exceeds 7,900 kilometers.

The Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club was established in 1998. The irreplaceable head of the club is Viktor Mashchenko, the senior coach of Shotokan karate-do national team.

Ivan Kiryanov became the second Gazprom fighter taking part in the Battle of Champions Shotokan karate. In 2009 our country was represented by Alexander Gizenko (Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol). He also won in the International competition.
