Snowmobile tournament
News from projects and regions
On December 10 a snowmobile tournament in memory of Andrey Ushakov took place in Novy Urengoy.
More than 40 sportsmen from Novy Urengoy and Surgut participated in the first race of this season. Gazprom Dobycha Yamburg was represented by 18 snowmobile drivers from the Yamburg Sports and Technical Club.
The tournament was arranged in 4 categories: youth, junior, sport and supersport. Gazprom Dobycha Yamburg sportsmen showed perfect results by winning nine medals of twelve possible ones.
Gazprom Dobycha Yamburg drivers took all places on the victory podium in youth and sport categories. Alexey Morokov and Denis Sadrislamov won gold medals, Alexey Znaydyuk and Alexandr Petrov – silver medals, Mark Petrasha and Fyodor Petrov – bronze medals. The winner among juniors was Leonid Grigoryev. In the supersport category Alexander Shalnov took the first place, Dmitry Sklyarov – the third one.
According to Evgeny Sklyarov, the snowmobile team’s coach, the tournament was very entertaining; drivers really fought for a win. “A number of medal places could be higher but technical breakdowns and disappointing fallings hindered sportsmen from winning more medals,” he noticed.
The tournament in memory of Andrey Ushakov gave start to a new snowmobile season. Stages of the national championship and the Russian Cup will be held in several towns during the season. Winners and medalists of these tournaments will participate in the Star Race to be held next April in Novy Urengoy and unveil the best sportsmen of the season.
