Gazprom’s strategic goal is to become a leader among global energy companies by developing new markets, diversifying business activities and securing the reliability of supplies.

Gazprom Group is the world’s largest company in terms of the natural gas reserve size. As of December 31, 2008 the Group’s A+B+C1 gas, condensate and oil reserves (Russian standards) were estimated at 33.1 trillion cubic meters, 1.3 billion tons and 1.6 billion tons respectively. Under the PRMS international standards the Group’s proven and probable hydrocarbon reserves were estimated at 27.3 billion tons of fuel equivalent worth USD 230.1 billion.

In terms of gas production volumes Gazprom Group (around 18 per cent of the global total) is a leader among world oil and gas companies. In 2008 the Group produced 549.7 billion cubic meters of gas, 10.9 million tons of condensate and 32.0 million tons of oil.

Natural gas from Central Asia is a crucial element in Gazprom’s resource base. In 2008 Gazprom Group purchased 66.1 billion cubic meters of Central Asian gas.

Gazprom owns the world’s largest gas transmission system capable of continuously conveying gas over long distances to Russian consumers and abroad. The length of Gazprom’s gas trunklines is over 159 thousand km.

Gazprom is intent on expanding the production of gas chemical products, intensifying the extraction of valuable components from natural gas and boosting the production of advanced processing products. In 2008 the Group processed 38.4 billion cubic meters of gas and 40.1 million tons of oil and condensate.

The power generation business development in Gazprom Group contemplates, inter alia, acquiring stakes in generating companies, building new generating capacity as well as developing the energy utility and network sectors. The Group’s primary assets in Russia’s power industry are as follows: Mosenergo (53.47 per cent), TGC-1 (28.7 per cent), OGK-2 (56.6 per cent) and OGK-6 (60 per cent).

In the Russian Federation Gazprom holds a leading position in gas distribution. Gasification of Russia’s regions is therefore a major target of the Group. In 2008 the gasification program covered 64 constituents of Russia and in 2009 investments are earmarked for gasification purposes in 68 regions of the country.
